Keith reads from Thurber on Fridays in honor of his father. I love this piece of broadcasting. Tonight, he read a piece mentioning elevators. Keith and his Pop, me and my Pop : simpatico.
My Pop, my best friend, the best man at my wedding, the BEST man I have ever known. Keith, as we all know, took time off to sit/care/be with his Pop as he descended to his final rest.
I have no idea where I'm going with this, but let's see where it takes us. Luckily, Keith has the money to provide the best care necessary for his Pop. Most don't, that is one of the reasons he advocated so strongly for any Health Care Bill to pass.
More below the bottom line...
I don't have the money/platform/ability to provide for my Pop, in the same way that Keith Olbermann does/did. His father died, mine has not, yet. I sympathize with Keith, my Pop is not long for this world, and I can't stop or prevent his death or help him. The only thing I can do is to be a good Son, that's it.
That's all I would ever expected of anyone who has ever loved me, is to be good. Do right by me, respect my wishes, don't sully my life. I'm sure that's all my Pop asks of me. I'm sure that is all anyone asks of another.
Wow, I feel that I'm getting "preachy", and I guess that's as far as I can go here. I'm agnostic, so I can't get all religious. We, as human beings, need to be more tolerant of others, we need to respect all opinions. We need to understand that all men are created equal, we need to stop jumping to conclusions.
I hope that my elevator takes me to the top floor.
