I wrote a diary the other night that wasn't a diary. Ho boy did the few commenters let me know that I broke the rules. It was late at night (midnight EST) and I was trying to do something to get out of my own head for a moment. I understand that this site is wholly and completely devoted to electing good people to serve the public good, and anything else should be shouted down.
Do animal picture diaries constitute an exception to the rules? I'm going to stop my pity party and try to lay out why I'm writing this tonight. As I said, I was trying to "get out of my own head" or distract myself for a moment and I thought a short, quick, meaningless post would help. That's not allowed, I understand that, and I should have realized that this wasn't the forum to alleviate my momentary lapse of stability.
Something that struck me funny was a Recommended Diary the next/same day that, without the Blockquote, would have been just a few words longer than mine. I don't pretend to be a good writer, I don't ask to be recommended, read my signature line, I write to please myself.
One more moment below ...
I was trying to help myself and not a Democratic candidate, that was my fault. I was steered toward The Grieving Room after I wrote about a friend's suicide. I should have ignored the advice from people here and just dealt with my feelings my own way. Maybe the way my friend dealt with his problems.
After all, the only things allowed to be written here are about electing better Democratic politicians. I would love to quit smoking, please don't tell me that there's a diary series here that might help me with that. This is about more than rules, this site has transformed from a blog to a community. A group of people trying to help each other, and one way that we help is to let each other blow off steam.
We all do that in different ways, some post animal pictures, or share their grief, or support other people struggling with an addiction, or losing weight. This community breaks it's own rules continually by not being 24/7 about
more and better Democrats, not necessarily in that order.
It's a Democratic blog with one goal in mind: electoral victory.
This is not about me trying to change anyone's mind about anything, the rules here or my lack of following said rules. This is just me, getting out of my own head for one moment. Please.
